Bova
Bova is a small municipality - located in the far south of Calabria at the tip of Italy's boot; just a few kilometers inland, it is perched on a mountain peak over 800m high.
From the highest point of the village - the Castello Normanno - one can enjoy a 360° panoramic view: of the mountains in the hinterland, of Sicily with Mount Etna, of the valley of the 'Fiumara Amendolea' which dries up in summer, and naturally, of the Mediterranean Sea surrounding the tip of the boot.
In the village square stands a steam locomotive as a symbol of the farewell of many inhabitants who sought work in the north in the 1950s, few of whom ever returned home. For many years, this place was destined for decline and decay.
However, for a few years now, families have been settling here again and have begun rebuilding the dilapidated houses to live there themselves and earn money by renting out apartments to tourists.
Due to its southern and high altitude location, the climate is practically pleasant all year round. Although temperatures can sometimes exceed 30° C in August, there is always a cooling wind blowing at this altitude.

Bova ist eine kleine Gemeinde - ganz im Süden Kalabriens an der Stiefelspitze Italiens gelegen; nur wenige Kilometer landeinwärts thront sie auf einer über 800m hohen Bergspitze.
Vom höchsten Punkt des Ortes aus - dem Castello Normanno - bietet sich ein atemberaubender 360°-Panoramablick: Auf die Berge des Hinterlands, auf Sizilien mit dem Aetna, auf das Tal des im Sommer trockengefallenen 'Fiumara Amendolea' und natürlich auf das die Stiefelspitze umgebende Mittelmeer.
Auf dem Dorfplatz steht eine Dampflokomotive als Symbol für den Abschied vieler Einwohner, die in den 50er Jahren im Norden Arbeit suchten und nur wenige zurückkehrten. Lange Zeit schien der Ort dem Niedergang geweiht.
Seit ein paar Jahren jedoch haben sich hier wieder Familien niedergelassen und mit dem Wiederaufbau der verfallenen Häuser begonnen, um dort selber zu wohnen und mit der Vermietung von Wohnungen an Touristen Geld zu verdienen.
