A few years ago, the Mrike boarding school - located on the arid, eastern side of Kilimanjaro – was a sad place: a reliable supply of drinking water and water for domestic use could not be ensured throughout the year for the students. The number of pupils fell; the school stood on the brink of having to close its doors.
With the construction of two large storage tanks - funded by Auxilium - sufficient water is now available year-round. In addition, the furnishings in the dormitory bedrooms was able to be improved.
Today several hundred students are being taught again at Mrike.
Vor einigen Jahren war die Internatsschule von Mrike - an der regenarmen Ostseite des Kilimandscharo gelegen - ein trauriger Platz:
Eine zuverlässige Versorgung der Schüler mit Trink- und Brauchwasser konnte im Jahresverlauf nicht sichergestellt werden. So sanken die Schülerzahlen; die Schule stand vor dem Aus.
Mit der Errichtung zweier großer Vorratstanks - finanziert durch Auxilium - steht nun ganzjährig ausreichend Wasser zur Verfügung. Auch die Ausstattung der Schlafräume konnte verbessert werden.
Heute werden wieder mehrere Hundert Schüler in Mrike unterrichtet.
